About the Assembly

The Assembly is the triennial meeting of the Archdiocese of Canada. A diocese is the basic Church body which unites parishes and institutions, usually in a defined geographical area, under the authority of a diocesan bishop, the chief shepherd of the diocese, who governs with the assistance of a Diocesan Council and Diocesan Assembly. The Assembly is the highest legislative and administrative authority within the diocese, and it assists the diocesan Bishop in its governance. The Assembly brings together the various elements of the diocese – clergy, laity, and various institutions – to bear witness to her identity, unity, and mission. (The Statute of the Orthodox Church in America, Articles 7,8,& 9)

‍In addition to its work of assisting the Archbishop with his governance, the Assembly is a unique opportunity for clergy and laity to grow in faith and knowledge through the many liturgical services and the teaching of our bishops and guest speakers. It is also a joyous occasion to establish and grow relationships with brothers and sisters in Christ from across the country, leading to the increase of cooperation, love, and unity in the Church.

About Our Theme

“From Generation to Generation”: Passing on the Faith

The Orthodox Church in North America has seen an unprecedented influx of converts in recent years. These newcomers are often younger adults, and not only singles, but married couples eager to raise families. Their enthusiasm for the Church has rejuvenated many of us who have been Orthodox our whole lives. At the same time, it also requires careful guidance from those more experienced if it is to become mature and permanent commitment to Christ in his Church. Through its various speakers, the 2026 Assembly theme invites us to consider how we ourselves have received the faith, how we can best form new converts in the faith, and how we can pass that faith on to our children – “from generation to generation” (Psalm 78:13).
